Touching Despite Everything
The exhibition, which brings together carpet and weaving works, will be held by FAAR Gallery at Cape Bodrum Hotel.
The exhibition, which brings together the carpet and weaving works curated by Mehmet Kahraman, will be held by FAAR Art & Design from June 25, 2020, to July 20, 2020, at Cape Bodrum Hotel. This thoughtfully designed exhibition space has been crafted by architect Fahrettin Aykut, ensuring a seamless blend of art and architecture that enhances the visitor experience. By integrating the unique aesthetics of the venue with the intricate artistry of the carpets and weavings, the exhibition aims to create a captivating environment that draws viewers into the rich cultural narratives embedded within each piece.
The artists featured in this exhibition primarily focus on weaving, with a special emphasis on the tapestry technique. They address the challenges faced by the art of weaving, such as being touched, teased, and discomposed. These artists delve into various meanings and methods of touch, which involve a physical action at its core. They firmly believe in the power of articulation, contemplation, and expression to bridge the gap between the body and the world, as well as between thought and action. By transforming the process of thought—which includes successive or overlapping conflicts—into weaving, they illustrate how this ancient craft can serve as a medium to convey profound ideas and emotions.
Weaving, as an action, inherently reduces the distance in the relationship between the soul and the universe, and it is driven by touch. The physical act of weaving thoughts that can touch people is essential. Despite the increased mental interactions that modern technology facilitates, the exhibition underscores the importance of the tactile experience. In an era where humanity is continually updating life strategies, the need for touch becomes even more critical. The exhibition encourages viewers to reflect on the role of touch in our lives and how it can be both a physical and emotional connector.
Held in collaboration with FAAR Art Space and m2 project, the exhibition intertwines touch and texture, highlighting actions that are beneficial for humanity and that decelerate the fast-paced world we live in. By bringing together these elements, the artists present works that not only showcase their technical skill but also invite viewers to slow down, engage deeply, and reconnect with the tangible aspects of the human experience. Through this exhibition, FAAR Art & Design aims to foster a greater appreciation for the art of weaving and its relevance in contemporary society.
